Adobe Photoshop FAQ's

How do I print an image in Adobe Photoshop using an ICC profile?

If you have an ICC profile relevant to your printer, ink, paper and resolution settings (and please remember, any change in any of those elementshas an impact on printed results), then you need to tell Photoshop to use that profile when outputting your image.

Select 'Print with Preview'. When the dialogue opens, about halfway down, on the left hand side, you will see a box called 'Show More Options'. If this is not already ticked, then select it, and from the drop down menu underneath it, select 'Color Management'.

In the Source Space section, this will show either 'Untagged RGB' (which means that their is no embedded profile with the image) or the name of the profile used with your image. This will tend to be your Working RGB space, which should be Aobe RGB (1998).

In the Print Space, select the name of the profile you want to use. This will either be a generic profile which came with your printer when you installed it, a custom ICC profile you have created yourself using your own colour management tools, or a remote profile, created by colourtools or another supplier specifically for you.

The box marked Intent will tend to show either Relative Colormetric or Perceptual. These are different methods of converting colour when the device you are sending to cannot achieve the exact colour you want. Generally, photographic work should be sent using Perceptual, and other images using Relative Colormetric, but this is not a hard and fast rule, and you may wish to experiment on certain images.
