Adobe Photoshop FAQ's

Where do I assign a profile when bringing an image into Adobe Photoshop?

When you open an image in Photoshop, provided your Color Settings are set up correctly (see Color Settings in Photoshop FAQ), you will be warned if the image has no profile, or one that doesn't match your settings.

If you are opening an image that you have scanned on a profiled scanner or from a profiled camera, you should take the option to 'Assign Profile' and choose the relevant profile from your scanner/camera, and then tick the box 'and then convert to working RGB'.

If you are opening an image that has no assigned profile, generally your best option is to convert to your working RGB colour space, but you should examine the opened image carefully in case there are some unexpected colour shifts.

If you are opening a JPEG or TIFF image from an unprofiled camera, and you get a warning that there is no embedded profile, generally your best bet is to assign the profile sRGB, as most digital cameras will default to that colour space.
