Adobe Photoshop FAQ's

What Colour Settings should I use in Adobe Photoshop?

The Color Settings in Adobe Photoshop define a number of different factors and determine how your images are brought in, colour managed and converted.

Different people of course have different requirements, but as a general guideline, we would recommend you chose the 'Europe Prepress Defaults' preset. This can be accessed from the Edit menu > Color Settings. The first box, Settings, is a pull down menu. You will find Europe Prepress Defaults as one of the options here.

What this does is define:

Your RGB working space - set to Adobe RGB (1998)

Your CMYK working space - set to European standard for presses using coated paper. This is used when you convert an image from RGB to CMYK.

Your colour management policies - always checks to see if there is an embedded profile in an image brought into Photoshop, and warns you if there is mismatch between the embedded profile, and your settings.
