Custom Remote Profiling FAQ's
Why are ICC profiles important for quality colour printing?
The manufacturer-provided print drivers assume the use of OEM inks and papers for that specific printer. Whenever different inks and papers are introduced, it is important that profiles that reflect the color range and print capabilities of those inks and papers be used. Since ColorVANTAGE inks are different from OEM inks, it is necessary to use the specially created profiles in order to optimize your output.
Every ink/paper/printer/resolution combination has a unique color gamut or colour fingerprint. Profiles are designed to recognize the combined effect of printing parameters, and provide a way to map and adjust colour to take best advantage of the colour gamut and deliver the best possible printed results.
A complrehensive list of profiles produced by Pantone is available for free download. Check out our PROFILES page. Additionally, Colourtools have produced a series of profiles for other papers, including the popular Hahne Muhle range. All these profiles are available for free download to Colourtools ColorVANTAGE customers.
If the paper you wish to use is not available as one of our free profiles, then you will need custom profiles to get the best possible results from your printer/ink/paper combination. If you don't have the necessary tools to create your own profiles, then Colourtools will be delighted to do it for you. We only use GretagMacbeth Professional equipment to ensure that the profiles we create are the best possible.
We strongly suggest that your monitor be calibrated and profiled to ensure an accurate colour-managed workflow between monitor and printer. Colourtools are one of the leading suppliers of all colour management tools, including the Pantone ColorVision Spyder2 monitor calibration system, GretagMacbeth Eye-One system and the Monaco & X-Rite Optix syxtem. Full details of these can be found in our Monitor Profiling section
