General Colour Management FAQ's
How accurate are monitor profiles?
Monitor profiling and calibration, when undertaken using a proper profiling system such as the Pantone Spyder 2, the GretagMacbeth Eye-One Display 2 or the Monaco Optix XR systems, is designed to make your monitor as accurate as possible.
Please be aware, there is no such thing as 'absolutely accurate' as every monitor has potentially different characteristics. This not only applies to the technical specifications of the monitor, such as brightness and contrast ratios etc., but also such things as lighting condiitions, age of the screen, and many other factors.
Profiling using a monitor profiling system will produce the most accurate colours that your screen is capable of, but will not necessarily be the same as someone else's display because of all the factors involved.
If you are profiling several monitors on different systems, particularly using the Spyder2 Pro, then aslways start with the oldest system, as potentially newer displays will exhibit higher brightness levels than older ones which may not be still able to achieve that level of brightness.
