General Colour Management FAQ's

What is Native Whitepoint?

When talking about monitors, Native Whitepoint is the colour temperature (or shade of white) that the monitor uses when there is no calibration and profiling applied to that monitor. Usually, the monitor can be reset to its Native Whitepoint by resetting the monitor back to its factory defaults. This is most commonly done through the monitors On Screen Display/Menu options.

Colour temperatures range from low figures (below 2000K) which are red/orange through to blue white (above 9000K). Most uncalibrated monitors are set to factory default of 9300K is a very bright blueish white.

If you are profiling a digital display LCD, you should reset the monitor to factory defaults and calibrate using native Whitepoint.

Please also refer to the section in Pantone ColorVision, for the Spyder2, GretagMacbeth for the Eye-One Display 2 and X-Rite/Monaco for the Optix XR for instructions on calibrating an LCD monitor.
